Organization Overview
The Community Foundation of Crawford County’s mission is to offer philanthropic grantmaking and estate planning with the professional and financial expertise needed to engage, affect, and inspire charitable giving for the community of Crawford County, Indiana. The CFCC currently manages nearly $10 million in endowed funds.
Position Summary
The Executive Director provides executive leadership for Community Foundation of Crawford County (CFCC), including donor/community relations, fundraising and development, strategic direction, administrative and programs oversight, and staff supervision. The Executive Director reports to the Board of Directors in accordance with CFCC policies and for the management of the CFCC in a manner consistent with stated mission. The Executive Director manages staff to fulfill the purposes of the Community Foundation of Crawford County as defined in its Articles of Incorporation and the Bylaws.
Position Specifics
Primary Job Responsibilities:
- Advance the mission of the CFCC to offer philanthropic grant making and estate planning with the professional and financial expertise needed to engage, affect, and inspire charitable giving for the community of Crawford County, Indiana.
- Grow assets and visibility of the CFCC.
- Propose sound and realistic plans in alignment with the CFCC strategic plan, which will enable the Board of Directors to appraise the future needs of the community, make prudent program decisions, and guide the CFCC effectively and consistently with expressed donor wishes, community needs, and legal requirements.
- Hire, advise, counsel, and direct staff, 3rd party contractors, and professional advisors to fill skills gaps within the CFCC.
- Serve as the principal advisor to the Board of Directors, and the various committees, in the discharge of their official duties.
- Oversee the general operations of the Foundation in accomplishing the goals established by the Board of Directors.
- Work collaboratively with community leaders to best position Crawford County and the CFCC for growth.
Professional and Technical Responsibilities:
Administrative:
- Provide guidance and recommendations to the Board with respect to policies and procedures; activities in which the CFCC, from time to time, might want to be involved; and investigate projects the CFCC may want to support or fund.
- Serve as an ex officio member of all standing committees.
- Hire and supervise all staff and coordinate activities with professional advisors (e.g., auditors, legal counsel, bookkeeper, investment manager, etc.)
- Implement all decisions and policies adopted by the Board of Directors and carry out all directives of the Board of Directors.
- Develop the working practices of the CFCC.
- Provide the Board of Directors with all data, reports, and investigations requested by the Board of Directors to enable them to carry out their responsibilities.
- In coordination with the Chair and Immediate-Past Chair, stimulate involvement by the Board of Directors.
- Oversee all grant payments and processing of grant requests in coordination with the Programs and Operations Manager.
- Oversee the annual budgeting process and, after approval by the Board of Directors, administer operating and grant funds within the budget or as otherwise directed by the Board of Directors.
- Provide periodic cash flow projections.
- Assure that the CFCC’s physical properties are properly and adequately maintained.
Fund Development:
- Identify and form relationships with potential donor prospects.
- Develop cultivation and solicitation plans for specific corporations, foundations, businesses and individuals.
- Develop a case statement for support of the CFCC.
- Assume a leadership role in the community to promote the mission of the CFCC and presenting the CFCC’s case for support.
- Develop a plan for the stewardship and sustainability of all donations to the CFCC.
- Utilize the network of the Board of Directors to advance fund development efforts as necessary.
Fund Investment:
- Assist the Investment Committee in developing an investment strategy and investment mix consistent with the CFCC mission.
- Assist the Investment Committee in monitoring the investment of CFCC funds.
- Maintain necessary relationships with the investment manager(s) to assure a sound working relationship consistent with the Board’s policy.
- Develop and implement proper procedures to endorse and record CFCC receipts and disbursements and to handle other documents specifically authorized by the Board in accordance with auditors’ recommendations.
Fund Disbursement:
- Work in coordination with staff, Board of Directors, and Grants Committee to establish and communicate grantmaking strategies and priorities.
- Develop/maintain an application process including forms, reporting requirements, and follow-up procedures in conjunction with the Grants Committee and the staff.
- Evaluate grantmaking program and make appropriate changes to the process in conjunction with the Grants Committee and staff.
Public Relations:
- Arrange for media coverage of important actions and events affecting the CFCC.
- Oversee the creation of CFCC publicity and promotional material in conjunction with the Board of Directors and Committees.
- Meet with community, business, and professional leaders to convey the CFCC’s mission.
- Cultivate and maintain a good working relationship with local media personnel.
- Support the CFCC’s online presence and oversee the maintenance of the CFCC website and social media pages.
Other:
- Discharge other responsibilities that may be assigned by the Board or by one or more of the committees.
Hours:
- Full-time, salaried. 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday as a typical work schedule, with Board and Committee meetings and special events that could occur on weekends and/or evenings.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in related field, or equivalent experience.
- Demonstrated experience in organizational and administrative management.
- Ability to communicate and work with the public.
- Knowledge and understanding of the needs of the greater Crawford County community.
- Ability to work with board members, staff, and other volunteers.
- Strong interpersonal and writing skills.
- Familiarity with the concept and purposes of foundations and their relationship to their constituencies.
- Knowledge and experience in community leadership/organizing, particularly in event management or fundraising.
- One to two years minimum experience in professional fundraising preferred.

Salary
Exempt; Competitive and commensurate with applicant’s experience, skill, and education.
Benefits
A retirement savings plan, short- and long-term disability, and paid time off are available after an introductory period, along with 11 paid holidays per year. While no employer sponsored health insurance is currently available, a stipend for such expenses is negotiable.
