Nonprofits, Now is the Time to Submit Your Honoree
CRAWFORD COUNTY, IND – The Community Foundation of Crawford County (CFCC) seeks to honor volunteers that live in Crawford County or serve Crawford County through the nonprofit structure.
The CFCC is proud to announce the Doris June Snider Kaiser Volunteer of the Year Award and is joined in this effort again by Duke Energy as a co-sponsor.
“It is an honor to help recognize volunteers who are the backbone of a community,” said Liz Irwin, Government & Community Relations Manager, government and community relations manager for Duke Energy in southern Indiana. “We appreciate the countless hours they invest in making a difference every day.”
Any kind of “nonprofit” is eligible to submit a volunteer (or a married couple) of the year. Nonprofit can mean any type of group or organization that provides some type of human service: 501(c)(3) organizations, membership groups, churches/houses of worship, civic clubs and more. If in doubt, just call the Community Foundation at 812.365.2900. This is NOT a competitive process, but one where each person or couple who is submitted will be honored.
Nonprofits located in, or serving, Crawford County are encouraged to submit the name of one adult/couple (age 19 and older) or one youth (ages 18 and younger). As a philanthropic organization, the CFCC points out that philanthropy is about much more than money. Volunteerism and sharing one’s talents are significant parts of philanthropy and they contribute greatly to the success of any community.
The volunteers will be honored at an event on June 12, 2026, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the Community Foundation of Crawford County’s office, 4030 E Goodman Ridge Road, Marengo, IN 47140. The honorees’ meals, a special award (prepared by Crawford County High School students), and commemorative booklet will be paid for through the Doris June Snider Kaiser Memorial Endowment Fund and Duke Energy’s sponsorship. Because of these combined efforts, at least four additional guests of the honoree may attend free of charge.
Mr. Jim Kaiser of Eckerty, IN established this fund at the time of his wife’s death as a way to honor all of her volunteer work in the community. Her volunteer efforts were extensive and the CFCC is humbled to be a part of such a legacy.
“We certainly agree with Ms. Irwin and appreciate Mr. Kaiser’s vision when setting up this fund,” said Dr. Kimberly Broughton-Miller, CFCC’s Board Chairwoman. “Volunteers share a part of who they are with each act of kindness and service. Our community is all the better because of each and every volunteer! Donors like Mr. Kaiser provide the funding to ensure these kinds of appreciative programs continue.”

The Community Foundation of Crawford County was founded in April 1998 by a volunteer Board of Directors that represented a variety of interests in Crawford County. To date, the CFCC has awarded almost $8 million in grants for programs/projects supporting Crawford County children and youth, education, housing, health and human services, the environment, technology advancements, literacy and the arts, and has awarded more $2 million in scholarships benefiting Crawford County students. The CFCC currently manages more than 75 charitable endowment funds on behalf of families, individuals, corporations and non-profit organizations.
